Especially with her children and teenager clients, she avoids boxing them into a diagnosis or prescribed treatment plan, she treats them as fully unique individuals who are more defined by their strengths, capabilities and potential than by the problems that led them to seek her services.
Her therapy approach combines compassion, empathy and down-to-earth authenticity. By blending various psychotherapy approaches and techniques, she is able to best help a wide array of clients and personality types. Her diverse experiences, theoretical orientation, and skill all work together to help her clients triumph over their weaknesses, while putting them on a long-term path to good mental health.
Greta is considered a preeminent expert on the treatment of a wide range of childhood challenges and disorders. She earned her well-deserved reputation because of her ability to connect with her young clients, reach into their private world, and direct a therapy process that yields results – for the child, parent, family, school, and social environment.
Greta is an expert child psychotherapist whose education, training, and experience enables her to help children, some as young as three years old, with Impulse Control Deficit, Autism Spectrum, Sensory Integration, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity and Communication Disorders. The very long list of childhood specific disorders she provides counseling services for continues with: Major Depression, Developmental Delays, Selective Mutism, Separation Anxiety, Childhood Anxiety, Rumination, Social Communication and Attachment Disorders.
In addition, Greta is a tireless advocate for her clients and, when appropriate, their families. She not only understands the importance and necessity of multi-disciplinary treatment teams; she collaborates well with them. Her work with various referral sources, physicians, psychiatrists, school social workers, and other professionals involved in the care of her clients has resulted in her well-deserved positive reputation in various professional communities.
Greta is uniquely able to blend many types of research-based theories and practices to find the right strategies that best meet her psychotherapy client’s needs and desires. Mindfulness based counseling is one of these scientifically validated treatment methods that predictably provides her child and teen clients with relief from anxiety, dread, depression, obsessions and compulsion. She has recently become certified in mindfulness-based stress reduction, which she finds instrumental in the progress of her clients.
Greta’s mastery of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) skill set and abilities help clients better understand how and why their thoughts, feelings and behaviors interact with each other and how to modify them so they enhance versus hurt their lives. In combination, her CBT and mindfulness work helps eliminate or neutralize the destructive force of negative self-talk, alter how you observe your surroundings, and re-evaluate how you respond to life challenges. Greta is one of the few counseling practitioners who are educated, trained and in some cases, certified in Interactive Play Therapy, Mindfulness Stress Based Reduction, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Family Therapy.
